Nestled in the heart of Lübeck on Hansestraße, Restaurant Alte Feuerwache offers a compelling culinary journey deeply rooted in traditional German gastronomy with a fresh twist. Housed in a charmingly repurposed old fire station, this eatery blends rustic character with warm, welcoming vibes, creating a vibrant atmosphere where both locals and travelers feel at home.
The menu is a treasure trove for lovers of hearty, authentic dishes, especially if you appreciate the richness of Northern German seafood and succulent meats. The “Aus dem Meer” section boasts delicacies such as the Norweger Lachsfilet – a perfectly pan-seared salmon filet accompanied by tender Blattspinat (spinach), a velvety Sauce Béarnaise, and crispy, golden potato dippers (€21.50). Equally enticing is the Fried redfish fillet served on a bed of Holstein lentil vegetables, which combines earthy legumes and flaky fish in a delightful harmony (€17.90).
Meat aficionados will be equally satisfied with offerings like the Brandstifter, a 200-gram pork tenderloin served with fiery paprika vegetables, crunchy onion rings, potato dippers, and a unique special sauce (€19.90) – a dish bursting with flavor and perfect for those craving a punch of spice. The Rumpsteak Man’s Cut (220 grams) roundly satisfies with its tender texture, complemented by herb butter, potato dippers, and a fresh side salad (€25.90). Every bite speaks of thoughtful preparation and an emphasis on quality ingredients.
For those with a sweet tooth, the dessert menu continues the tradition of indulgence. The “Eis & Beerig” features two scoops of luscious vanilla ice cream topped with vibrant berry compote and a cloud of whipped cream (€7.90). Or try their lauwarm Schokoküchlein, a warm chocolate cake paired with fresh berries and vanilla ice cream (€8.90) – a perfect ending to a sumptuous meal.
The dining experience at Alte Feuerwache is not just about the food – it’s enriched by the staff’s genuine hospitality. Numerous guests mention their warmth and friendliness, particularly highlighting how they welcome four-legged friends with as much care as their human companions. This attention to detail creates an inclusive and relaxed environment, ideal for casual meals or special occasions.
While the lively atmosphere filled with chatter and clinking glasses can sometimes amplify noise levels — a testament to the restaurant’s popularity and conviviality — it’s clear that most diners find the experience utterly rewarding. The remarkable combination of hearty northern German dishes, craft beers including excellent Bavarian selections, and a cozy yet lively setting creates a destination well worth visiting.
Whether you’re craving tender, expertly-cooked meats, fresh and flaky seafood, or comforting desserts to round off your meal, Restaurant Alte Feuerwache delivers a hearty, authentic taste of Lübeck’s culinary landscape that lingers long after the last bite.

Lots of great details in this old fire station. Super friendly staff. Tasty dishes and great Bavarian beer. Unfortunately only four stars due to the bad accoustics which made it impossible to talk. The noise was so loud that it was a relief to leave.

Excellent food! Starters were spicy gullasch and garlic bread. Lovely gullasch! Would gladly eat that for main course. We then ordered the red fish and the "brandstifter". The meat was so tender. Everything was tasty! The staff was very friendly, even came with a bowl of water for our dog and asked her name and said hello to her. Will gladly return

I tried the grill plate. Very nice and tasty! Not my favorite choices of beer but good enough. Also try the aquavit! Recommended! The staff is friendly and do not be allergic to dogs because a lot visits :-)

Had dinner here twice because we were staying in a great apartment at Jessop Haus around the corner. Staff were über friendly & helpful and the drinks and food were great. They all spoke fairly good English - which was really lucky because we sadly didn’t speak ANY German Great atmosphere.
